how to get things done

What you need to know from these pictures is that cleaning out the chicken coop was Hattie’s idea, one hundred percent. She feeds and waters the chickens each day, so she really wanted it cleaned out when the weather turned warm.

But she’s a wise woman, and announced to the whole family that whoever helped her would get to eat the biggest rice krispie bar from the pan she was planning on making later that afternoon. And apparently marshmallows and puffed rice are quite motivating to Alden, who did the entire project pretty much on his own, with a great attitude, chatting happily with Hattie all the while.

He did get the biggest rice krispie bar, but everyone else got one too and he took no issue. I think he actually loved this smelly project. Hattie got her chicken coop cleaned, and got to make (and eat) rice krispie bars.

Together, these kids know how to get things done.

I am a mother of six, married to a never-saw-it-comin' aspiring farmer in Southern Minnesota. As new farmers, I write about our transition from the city to the country with hopes of sharing our joy and gratitude for all that we are learning.
