Cody the Billy

We have a new arrival in the barn yard! We purchased Cody, a registered Nubian billy goat, to join our dairy goats. He’ll be our sire and help us grow this herd. Our hope is that our nannies will have darling goat kids in March so that I can begin milking the goats again in April. I loved this part of our farm last summer when I milked Darcy every morning. We loved the milk and I became quite the goat milk soap enthusiast.

Cody is just 6 months old and will continue to grow. We are happy to have a Nubian as his offspring will have a higher buttermilk content than Darcy and Penny. This means that in a few generations I will be able to make goat cheese as well. I am thrilled at this thought!

I am a mother of six, married to a never-saw-it-comin' aspiring farmer in Southern Minnesota. As new farmers, I write about our transition from the city to the country with hopes of sharing our joy and gratitude for all that we are learning.
