A Blog for My Kids

As of this month I have kept a blog for twelve years. Most of the time I was at joyfullybecca.com and then I switched over here to thegrovestead. Over the past several years, we have been printing out each year of blog posts into hardcover books for our family to enjoy. A few weeks ago the 2010 book came in the mail and Ivar yelled, “I’ve been waiting for this one! This is the year I was born!” And then he came to dinner with all sorts of funny stories about my pregnancy with him, and his first two months of life.

Hearing him tell me the stories I had written down was a dream come true. He’d say, “you never told me about that part.” And I’d tell him, “I don’t remember it all…that’s why I wrote it down!”

As you can imagine, this has stirred something in me to get blogging again. I’ve turned to instagram a lot lately because it is instant. But it requires such a truncated version of any story. So I have a new resolve to blog more often. For Elias and Alden and Hattie so that their stories are written down too and this season of life is remembered more fully.

So here we go. 🙂

I am a mother of six, married to a never-saw-it-comin' aspiring farmer in Southern Minnesota. As new farmers, I write about our transition from the city to the country with hopes of sharing our joy and gratitude for all that we are learning.
