My oldest and my youngest

I recently went through all of our photos from the last year, looking for good pictures to include in an album for my mother-in-law’s birthday. It wasn’t until I started pulling out my favorites that I saw a growing theme: Ivar is always holding Abel. They are my most photographed duo.

What hit me was that I hadn’t noticed this in real life yet. Just in the pictures. But since this realization, I see them together all the time.

It’s such a sweet thought. They have twelve years between, them, but they are together all day long, and there is a real bond there, seven months in. Abel lights up like a lightbulb if Ivar even makes eye contact from across the room.

It’s a special friendship they have begun, one that will outlast my own lifetime as their mom. What a joy the goodness of family is, a very thoughtful gift from God.

I am a mother of six, married to a never-saw-it-comin' aspiring farmer in Southern Minnesota. As new farmers, I write about our transition from the city to the country with hopes of sharing our joy and gratitude for all that we are learning.
